What Is Mojave Road Radio?
Mojave Road Radio is a live music and storytelling project from Jeffrey Slough — built around songs, stories, travel, memory, and the strange little roads that connect them.
At its heart, Mojave Road Radio is an evening of American songs and road-worn stories. Some songs are originals. Some are borrowed from the great songwriters who have kept me company over the years. The thread running through it all is the idea that music is more than entertainment. It is a way of remembering where we’ve been, making sense of where we are, and finding a little light for the road ahead.
Mojave Road Radio can take different shapes depending on the room. Sometimes it is just me, a guitar, and a story. Sometimes it includes bass, percussion, lead guitar, or other voices. That flexibility is part of the point. It allows the show to fit the space — from a quiet listening room to a brewery, winery, private event, or outdoor stage.
For people who know me from The Penny Stinkers, don’t worry. The band is not going away. The Penny Stinkers will continue to play the high-energy, danceable shows people have come to expect from us.
But Mojave Road Radio gives me another road to travel. A band is a special thing — chemistry, muscle, friendship, timing, and the shared instinct that happens when the right people are onstage together. But a band is not the only way to make music. Mojave Road Radio gives me room to stretch out as a storyteller, songwriter, performer, and content creator while also giving me a way to work with talented friends in different combinations.
Think of it less as a new band and more as a signal from the road — songs, stories, late-night transmissions, and whatever else I find along the way.
